Wigston Town Centre
Bus Interchange Upgrade
Update November 2010
There were no adverse comments as a result of the scheme consultation, and the improvements were constructed in July 2010.
Background
The County Council has a Local Transport Plan objective to tackle traffic congestion, and one of the ways we do this is by making bus travel more attractive through improvements to bus services. In turn, one of the ways of achieving this is to make the bus service more accessible by providing clear bus timetable and other local information, and providing raised kerbs to make access to buses easier for disabled people (particularly wheelchair users) and those with pushchairs.
The Proposals
- To improve the facilities at five existing bus stops around Wigston town centre on Paddock Street, Long Street, Leicester Road and Bull Head Street
- Improvements will vary between the bus stops, but will include upgrading bus stop poles, upgrading timetable displays and providing more general information, and providing or repositioning litter bins.
- Existing bus lay-by and raised kerbs on Paddock Street are to be extended to accommodate two buses, and new raised kerbs provided at stop number 3 on Leicester Road (Please refer to the scheme plan by following the link below).
