Oadby, A6 Leicester Road
Bus and cycle facilities
Latest update January 2011
An Experimental Traffic Regulation Order was put in place at the end of November 2009 to provide a bus/cycle lane on the south west side of the A6 Leicester Road, Oadby, from a short distance north west of the Brabazon Road junction as far as the Leicester city boundary. The Order also included a peak hour loading restriction over the same length.
In parallel with the bus/cycle lane, and constructed at the same time, is a scheme to extend the existing cycle route from the Leicester city boundary southeastwards as far as the Brabazon Road junction, comprising the improvement and signing of off-road facilities, and appropriate links to the new bus/cycle lane and the main carriageway. This scheme is now in place and in use, with only a small amount of kerbing work and white lining outstanding.
The bus lane road markings and signage were put in place in accordance with the Experimental TRO. After the evaluation period, and having considered all the comments and representations, the scheme was considered by the County Council's Scrutiny Commission and finally by the Cabinet, which approved the confirmation of the experimental Traffic Regulation Order for the bus lane on the A6 Leicester Road, Oadby as a permanent Order.
The necessary procedures will now be put in hand to confirm the Permanent Order, and red surfacing will be applied to the bus lane to finalise the scheme once the weather and temperature improve sufficiently.
