Junction 21 Area Improvements
News Winter 2007
Work has begun on the B582 Enderby Road Corridor, Whetstone as part of a £1.5M programme of road improvements to ease traffic flow in the busy M1 Junction 21 area.
Initially, construction work on the B582 between Grange Business Park and Trinity Road, Whetstone will involve statutory undertakers such as BT and Transco diverting their services within the highway. There will be a break for the Christmas period and then works will continue until spring 2008.
The actual widening of the carriageway to create passing space at the junctions of Grange Business Park and Trinity Road, extension of the right turn lane into Victoria Road and the relocation of the pedestrian refuge is programmed to take place during March 2008.
A permanent Traffic Regulation Order is also proposed to prohibit drivers turning right onto Enderby Road or going straight ahead into Victoria Road from Woodyard Lane.
Improvement schemes will follow at either the Foxhunter Roundabout or the Whetstone Tip access in Spring 2008. This first phase of schemes is programmed to be completed by early 2009. A second phase of improvements at the ASDA and Everards roundabouts and along Narborough Road South is planned after this.
With extra traffic lanes, new cycle lanes and pedestrian crossings, the improvements complement the new park and ride facility due to be built near Fosse Park and aim to ease growing pressure on the highway network in the M1 Junction 21 area.
