Press Release - Earl Shilton bypass on the road to recycling (11/04/08)

Nearly 27,000 tonnes of recycled road material have been used in the bypass so far and much more will be before the County Council project is finished.
April 2008 - Update on main activites
|
Thurlaston Lane Bridge The new bridge is well underway with the concrete bases and piers now in place. The construction of the deck of the bridge which carries the road will begin soon, followed by the installation in June and July of steel parapets and fencing along the sides of the bridge, to ensure vehicle and pedestrian safety. Thurlaston Lane traffic will be diverted onto the new bridge in October 2008. The adjacent picture shows the bridge piers being constructed.

Thurlaston Brook Culvert The tunnel under the bypass for Thurlaston Brook has now been completed on time, and during April the brook will be diverted through the new structure, with the existing stream bed being filled in. The adjacent picture shows the culvert being constructed.

Bridleway Underpass The Bridleway underpass is half complete, with construction works progressing well to the side walls. The large size of the walls means that the concrete pouring activities are quite complex but the Bridleway Underpass is expected to be completed in late July. The adjacent picture shows the underpass walls being constructed.

Elmsthorpe Lane The construction works that have been undertaken during the closure of Elmsthorpe Lane are nearing completion and it is anticipated that the road will be reopened to traffic and pedestrians during May 2008. The adjacent picture shows construction works at Elmsthorpe Lane.

Carrs Hill Construction of the roundabout at Carrs Hill is now half complete and ahead of schedule, with the tarmac due to be laid in May. The completion of this part of the project ahead of schedule will help to make up time on the bypass project lost due to the discovery of newts.
