Gallery of road safety and speed reduction measures

Requests for highway improvements are assessed against the objectives of the County Council's Local Transport Plan 3 (LTP3) for 2011 to 2026, which are
  • To improve the performance and reliability of our transport system
  • To plan for, and support economic and population growth
  • To encourage active and sustainable travel
  • To improve connectivity and accessibility
  • To improve road safety
  • To improve quality of life
Under LTP3, traffic calming schemes are not supported solely on the basis of reducing vehicle speeds, but will be considered if it can be demonstrated that it's introduction supports one of the above objectives. Funding for such schemes is prioritised on the number of accidents, their pattern and severity, with proirity being given to sites that offer the greatest casualty saving potential relative to their cost.
Leicestershire County Council also supports communities to address their concerns through other initiatives, such as Community speed watch and Mobile VAS; for more details on these intiatives, please visit the County Council's web site www.bealocalhero.com
