A47 Hinckley Northern Perimeter Road, A5 to Leicester Road Roundabout

The scheme is now complete and post scheme monitoring will now be undertaken.

Background History

Over the last 3 years were have been 32 reported accidents on this road which  resulted in 51 people being injured. Individual accident circumstances were quite varied and spread thoughout the route.

The Proposals

  • Speed limit reduction from 40mph to 30mph on Dodwells Road, from the A5 to the Ashby Canal Bridge.
  • Right Turn ban for vehicles joining Normandy Way from Cloverfield ( Morrisions)
  • Traffic Signal controlled junction at Cornfield (McDonald's)
  • Antiskid surfacing at the Wykin Road, Stoke Road and Leicester Road roundabouts.
  • Centre hatching between A447 Ashby Road and Leicester Road
  • More Conspicuous road signs for traffic approaching the 40mph speed limit near Cornwall Way
  • General improvement of road markings and signing.

Scheme Objectives

  • To reduce the number of people injured each year on the A47 Hinckley Northern Perimeter Road.

Consultation

Following limited local consultations, the proposed improvements to the Cornfield junction as shown on this link to  Hinckley, A47 Normandy Way / Cloverfield junction ,were put in place last June, using cones and temporary signing. The change was generally considered to be a success.
Regarding to the reminder of the proposal, we are currently inviting comments from people who live and or work nearby and from any organisations or groups who may have a direct interest in these proposals. This formal consultation will end on the 9th April 2009, after which time all comments will be taken into consideration .

All comments will be treated in confidence and must reach us by the 9th April 2009.The success of these proposals is dependent on the support of the local community and comments received help elected members to decide how the scheme should progress. The final outcome of these consultations will be posted on the website.If you would like to comment on the proposals, our on line comment form is available to submit your views from 25th Feb 2009 until 9th April 2009.

Construction

Construction of the permanent scheme at the Cloverfield junction should commence in April and last approximately 2 weeks. During this period the junction will be closed, and traffic will have to use the adjacent Cornfield Junction.
Construction of the remainder of the scheme shoould be completed in the financial year commencing 1st April 2009. A timetable for construction will be determined once the results of the consultation have been assessed.
