Highways Status Search – List Of Streets Highways Act 1980 Section 36(6) & (7)

Leicestershire County Council are required to keep an up-to-date list of streets maintained at public expense under Section 36 of the Highways Act 1980.  The information making up the ‘List of streets’ is maintained by two departments in the County Council:
  • Information on most metalled (tarmaced) roads, some surfaced urban footways and byways open to all traffic is maintained by the Highways, Transportation and Waste Management department.  The Highways status search tool provides free access to this data.
  • Information on public rights of way as shown on the definitive map of Public Rights of Way is maintained by the Community Services department.  Their “Statement List of Paths” is a complete list of public rights of way and completes the information held by the County Council for the list of streets.

Highways status search tool – terms of use.

The search tool has been prepared using best available information from records compiled by the County Council and is correct to the best of our knowledge.  It does not, however, constitute a definitive statement as to the status of any particular highway; neither is it a comprehensive list of all streets in the county (though many are included for informative purposes.)
