Biggin Street Area Pedestrian Improvements

Loughborough Town Centre

Construction in Words and Pictures

The contract to construct the scheme was awarded to Leicestershire Highways Construction Services in May 2005, following a competitive tender process.  The contract covered 17 weeks, and was completed on time and to budget.
Site clearance
Site work started on the 18th July 2005, with Biggin Street closed at the junction with the A6.  The original trees (seen in the background) were quickly removed.
Block paving bein glaid on Biggin Street.
Once site clearance was completed, work began to install the new paving patterns, here on Biggin Street.
Creation of turning circle
New kerbs and bollards were installed to create a turning circle near The Unicorn PH.
Block paving 2
This area was then paved to create an attractive finish.
Tree planting
New trees (ornamental pear pyrus chanticlear) were planted in October 2005.

Night time working was required to complete the potentially disruptive repaving of Churchgate.
