Cosby

Proposed Traffic Calming Scheme

The Nook junction with Main Street

Background

Cosby Parish Council have approached Leicestershire County Council with a view to introducing traffic calming in the village to address concerns over the speed of traffic and the lack of pedestrian crossing facilities. The Parish Council has been raising money for a number of years to address these traffic problems, and is prepared to finance over 90% of the estimated cost of the proposed scheme. A scheme has been developed in partnership with Leicestershire County Council following discussions with Cosby Parish Council.

The Proposals

  • Gateway entry treatments on all roads into the village including enhanced village name plates, speed limit signs, bands of coloured surfacing, and road markings to raise awareness of the 30mph speed limit - includes extension of the existing 30mph speed limit on Croft Road.
  • Vehicle activated signs (VAS) within the 30mph speed limit on each road into the village.
  • A raised plateau (75mm high) at the junction of Park Road with Croft Road with a zebra crossing on Croft Road opposite the Mercury news shop.
  • A zebra crossing on The Nook adjacent to the footbridge.
  • A kerbed buildout at the junction of Main Street and Countesthorpe Road.
