Blackfordby, Main Street

Vehicle Speed Reduction Scheme

Incorporating An Advisory 20mph School Safety Zone

Blackfordby, Main Street

Background

As part of regeneration in the Ashby Woulds area, a development of new housing and industrial areas is currently being constructed near Woodville.  As a consequence the developer, Tapton Estates, has made a sum of money available for the introduction of speed reducing measures on Main Street to mitigate against the effect of any increased traffic volume and speeds through the village.
The scheme now proposed will focus on reducing vehicle speeds on Main Street and creating a safer environment for all road users, but particularly local residents and parents and children travelling to and from the school.

The Proposals

The proposals consist of:
  • Two sets of speed cushions, one just north of the junction with Sandtop Lane, and the other set with a small area of footway widening at the junction of Well Lane.
  • A speed table on the section of road outside the cemetery.
  • Yellow backed advisory school 20mph zone signs, with flashing amber lights, to be programmed to flash at school start/finish times

What happens next?

The success of these proposals is dependent on the support of the local community and comments received help elected County Council members to decide how the scheme should progress. The final outcome of the consultations will be posted on the website.
