Wymeswold
A6006, Rempstone Road and East Road
Proposed
Road Safety Scheme.
Background
Leicestershire County Council have been in discussion with Wymeswold Parish Council
and County Councillor Mr Richard Shepherd with a view to formulating appropriate speed reducing measures
on the A6006 through the village.
The Proposals
Various measures are proposed which are aimed at reducing speeds on the approaches
to the village centre. The proposed scheme involves increasing the conspicuity of the entrances to the
village followed by a series of Vehicle Activated Signs leading into and out of the village centre.
Vehicle Activated Signs
These are electronic signs which indicate a symbol and/or road safety message when
activated by vehicles considered to be travelling at an inappropriate speed. Such signs are proving
effective at reducing vehicle speeds and the risk of accidents.
Village Entry Treatments
This would involve increasing the conspicuity of the 30mph speed limit signs and
the nameplates at the village entrances. The construction of the refuges (central islands in the carriageway)
at these locations together with associated carriageway widening would improve this further. An extra
speed limit sign and appropriate planting will also be provided on the refuges. As a result drivers
will be influenced to adjust their speed before entering the built-up area.
Scheme Objectives
- To reduce vehicle speeds
- To reduce impact of traffic
- To generally improve road safety in the village for vunerable road users
The Plans
Construction Programme
