Management Proposals(West Avenue to Cherry Street)Latest update June 2006The comments received, both supporting and opposing the proposals,
were reported to the Highways and Transportation lead members meeting on Tuesday 31st January 2006 when,
after consideration, the scheme was formally approved. Construction began in March 2006 and was substantially
complete by the end of May.
BackgroundThere
had been concerns for some time about the number of vehicles using Pullman Road as a through route. There is an almost equal mix of domestic and industrial properties and there are a significant number of goods vehicle movements. As a consequence of a nearby retail development, the Pullman Road / Station Road junction was proposed to receive traffic signals and a system of traffic management was therefore proposed both to restrain vehicle numbers and to encourage safer speeds. The ProposalsSpeed cushions, speed tables and
a junction table have been installed between West Avenue and Cherry Street Junctions. Speed and junction
table features are approximately 70 millimetres high with 1:15 ramps and speed cushions are 65 millimetres
high. Although suitable locations for features are restricted by the large number of accesses and driveway
crossings, they are spaced as regularly as possible to achieve steadier driving speedsFor photos and details of the traffic measures we are proposing in your area, please click on our link to the photo Gallery and follow the links in gallery for speed cushions and speed tables. Scheme Objectives and detailsThe scheme is designed to restrain the vehicle numbers using Pullman Road as a through
route to access other areas, and the following aspects have been considered:-
