Loughborough Park Road / Belvoir Drive / Valley RoadProposed Road Safety SchemeUpdate March 2006Results of Speed Monitoring
Vehicles speeds along the route were recorded in March 2006 and November 2005 after the scheme was installed ,compared to those taken in November 2004 before the scheme. Vehicle speeds along the route have dropped to 29mph compared to 35mph before the
scheme and speeds have significantly dropped at the raised tables from 36mph to 26mph.
Speed readings shown on the plan are 85% percentile speeds (
the speed that 85% of vehicles are not exceeding)
Further Post scheme monitoring will continue and results posted on the web site in due course. Update November 2005The scheme was substantially complete on the 28 October 2005. Thanks to residents
of Park Road, Belvoir Drive and Valley Road for being patient during the duration of the road works.
Post scheme monitoring will now start. Results of monitoring will be posted on web site in due course.
Update September 2005The scheme received approval in April 2005 which was followed by Cabinet approval
in June 2005. Construction work started on the 18th July 2005, with all junction tables and raised table
completed by end of August 2005.
Work is progressing well with Vehicle Activated Signs to be installed shortly and
the work on the proposed mini-roundabout to start when public utilities have lowered a gas main in Pytchley
Drive.
As soon as the works have been completed, speed monitoring will take place to measure
the effectiveness of the scheme.
Scheme HistoryFollowing concerns raised by residents about the speed and volume of traffic using
Park Road, Belvoir Drive and Valley Road, a road safety scheme was developed.
Careful consideration has been given on the type of traffic calming techniques used
and following initial consultation with the emergency services and bus company the approved scheme was
deemed the most appropriate in meeting the scheme objectives without being detrimental to local traffic
needs.
Pre-scheme route dataRecorded vehicle speeds were in excess of 30mph, the route takes on average 6500
vehicles per day and there had been 10 casualties involved in road accidents in the last 3 years (2002-2004)
with 2 recorded so far in 2005.
Vehicle speed is a contributory factor to many accidents. Consequently the introduction
of such a scheme should lead to a reduction in the number and severity of accidents.
Scheme Objectives
An illustrative
plan of the proposed works (pdf, 510kB) and example
photographs are available.
Public ExhibitionA public exhibition of the proposals was held at the Church of the Good Shepherd,
Church Hall, Park Road on the 17th September 2004.
The exhibition was very well attended. We estimate around 400 people may have passed
through the doors.
