Local Safety Improvement Scheme - Proposed Zebra Crossing and Speed Cushions

Background

Recently, there has been a number of personal injury accidents involving school children along Winchester Road in the vicinity of Leysland High School. As part of a programme to improve pedestrian safety and reduce road traffic accidents it was proposed to install a zebra crossing with a set of speed cushions either side of the crossing along with school signing improvements.

The Proposals

  • Zebra crossing with speed cushions.
  • Yellow backed school warning signs with amber flashing lights at school times.

Scheme Objectives

  • Reducing speeds on the approaches to the zebra crossing by the installation of speed cushions.
  • Improve and highlight the existing school warning signs at school starting and leaving times by the use of flashing amber lights.
