A50 Leicester Road Glenfield

Proposed Toucan Crossing / Bus Stop Relocation and Subway Closure

Latest Update December 2006

The scheme has been abandoned and deleted from the capital programme.

November 2006

The consultation period has ended and all comments received are being considered. Further news on the scheme will follow shortly.

Background

This scheme was identified within the County Hall Travel plan and follows a "Safe Routes" review of walking and cycling routes from local residential areas. The review identified road safety concerns regarding pedestrians crossing the busy A50 instead of using the subway and personal security issues for pedestrians using the subway.
Funding for this scheme has been allocated from the Transportation Capital Programme 2006/2007 and subject to final approval following this consultation, it is anticipated that the Toucan Crossing will be constructed in November 2006

The Proposals

  • A Staggered traffic signal controlled crossing facility for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the A50 Leicester Road dual carriageway.
  • The bus stop situated on the corner of Faire Road to be relocated approx 30metres south adjacent to 33/35 Leicester Road
  • Formalisation of the existing National Cycle Network Route 63
  • *Closure of subway under A50 Leicester Road
(* Funding for the proposed closure of subway will be allocated in future years)
The use of this plan is limited to viewing on-line and printing one copy only.

Scheme Objectives

  • To provide safer crossing facilities for pedestrians and cyclists wanting to cross the A50 Leicester Road
