About Us
Working together
We work alongside students, school staff, bus companies and parents to help create and maintain a safe and trouble free environment with regards to the operation of your school transport.
We deal with all issues that may arise from and during school transport.  This encompasses such issues as anti-social behaviour and bullying, checking of bus passes and the promotion and enforcement of safe travel.
Education
The main role of Safer Travel is to educate pupils in how they are expected to behave on the school bus and how they can play an active role in taking responsibility for the safety of themselves and their fellow pupils.  We also liaise with drivers about any problems they may have and offer short talks about the best way to deal with difficult situations and unruly pupil behaviour.
The newest members of the Safer Travel team who have enthusiastically taken on what some call an unenviable task are Fiona Denton and Andy Thompson.  The challenge they have chosen to accept is to create and deliver a school assembly based educational programme to the County’s pupils on the importance of safe and responsible travel on the school bus.  Fiona has 13 years of invaluable first hand experience as a school bus driver and is well aware what can happen on the school bus. Andy is also no stranger to what kind of things happen on the school bus from his past experience as a passenger on school transport.  So far Fiona and Andy say they’re pleased with how the assemblies have been going and are pleasantly surprised by the attentiveness of the pupils.
Future plans include visiting as many schools as possible, giving classroom tutoring sessions and trying to reach out to more of the drivers and contractors that experience challenging pupil behaviour.
