Safer Travel at the ATCO conference

ATCO  The Safer Travel Team: About Us
In late November the Safer Travel team were asked to do a presentation at the ATCO (Association of Transport Coordinating Officers) conference at Aston University, Birmingham.  As Leicestershire County Council are the leading authority when it comes to providing school pupils with an education on the importance of safe and responsible bus travel it was decided that this was exactly what delegates at the conference would receive.  School transport coordinators from across the country were encouraged to regress back to Year 6 and imagine they were about to embark upon their first experience of using a school bus.  Throughout the presentation this group of big kids were treated to the same presentation/classroom session that was given at over 60 of Leicestershire’s primary schools in the run-up to the summer holidays.  Throughout, as with genuine Year 6 pupils, they were asked to contribute their ideas towards how they could stay safe on the school bus.  However, we’ve got to say they weren’t the best group we’ve ever had!!
All in all, the conference was a success and the Safer Travel team has received some encouraging feedback on our work and interest from other local authorities that may look in to providing a similar service for their schools.

Tickets please, for the prom!!!

John
Pupils at St. Martin's Catholic School in Stoke Golding had several crucial decisions to make in the run up to their school prom.  What to wear?  Who to take?  And how to arrive in style?
While some opted for limousines and hummers, Tyler and Daniel, from Earl Shilton, decided they would like nothing better than to have their friendly school bus driver, John, take them to school for one last time.  "He has just been an absolutely great bus driver," said Tyler Leon-Pardo.  "Everyone is hiring limos, and we wanted to do something different. Also, because we'll be leaving school, it's a great way to say goodbye to him."
John chauffeured the pupils in style to St. Martin's in an open-top, double decker bus and all of his smartly dressed passengers seemed to have a great time. Well done John!
