How and where to park

Everyday, thousands of motor vehicles drive around Leicestershire and at some point they may need to park.

Although the majority of motorists will park in designated parking spaces, a small but significant number park in contravention of the traffic regulation order. Avoid getting a ticket by following these simple rules
Double Yellow LineDouble yellow lines
along the edge of the road mean no waiting at any time and cover the carriageway, pavement and verge.
However, you may stop while passengers get into or out of the vehicle and to load and unload.
NLAATLoading restrictions
Double yellow lines on the kerb mean no loading or unloading at any time
Single Yellow LineSingle yellow lines
along the edge of the road mean you can't wait during the times shown on the sign and cover the carriageway, pavement and verge.
However, you may stop while passengers get into or out of the vehicle and to load and unload.
No LoadingPart time loading restrictions
are shown by single yellow lines on the kerb. They indicate that loading or unloading is prohibited during the times shown on the signs.
bus lane linesBus lanes
You must not drive or stop in a bus lane during its period of operation. Taxis and cyclists are usually allowed to use bus lanes.
loading only sign and linesLoading bays
are white 'bays' marked with the words 'Loading only' and a sign with the white on blue 'trolley' symbol. A sign will show the times when the bay can be used and whether loading and unloading is restricted to certain types of goods vehicles. Vehicles may not park here if they are not loading or unloading.
cycle lane signCycle lanes
These are shown by road markings and signs. You must not drive or park in a cycle lane that is marked by a solid white line during its times of operation.
Limited WaitingLimited waiting
White bay markings and upright signs indicate where parking is allowed. Waiting is limited to the times and duration shown.
bus clearwayBus stop clearways
You must not stop or park on a bus stop/stand clearway during its hours of operation.
doctors only linesParking bays for specific users
You must not park in parking spaces reserved for specific users such as Doctors, Ambulances, Blue Badge holders or residents only, unless you are entitled to do so.
