Highway Enquiries
Note: We can not give out specific information relating to an enquiry over the telephone. Research is always required for any type of enquiry to ensure that we are providing you with the best available information at that time. Please only contact us by telephone if you require us to clarify the fee for your enquiry.
We do have the facility to submit enquiries online. If payment is required for your type of enquiry, you can pay by credit or debit card using this method. You can still use this form if your enquiry does not require payment. You are still able to submit a letter with your enquiry when using this form.
You can e-mail us with your request by sending your enquiry to highwayenquiries@leics.gov.uk. If payment is needed, we will respond to you by e-mail with the amount required. To make payment you can either use the Highway Enquiries Online Form, or send a cheque to us in the post (address details are below).
If you would prefer to enquire in writing and make your payment by cheque, you can write to us at the following address enclosing a cheque made payable to Leicestershire County Council:
Highway Enquiries, Network Management, Leicestershire County Council, County Hall, Glenfield, LE3 8RJ. Alternatively, you can fax your enquiry to 0116 305 6618 making it for the attention of Highway Enquiries.
If you choose to pay by cheque, we will include a receipt with our response in the post. If payment is made online, you should receive an electronic receipt of payment.
Before you proceed to view our enquiry types and charges, some information that may provide an answer to your enquiry is already freely available on our website.
Road Status SearchYou can check the status of a particular named road by using our Road Status Search. Simply type in the name of a road, optionally select the town or district and click search. The status of your road will then be shown to you with the explanation of the status below.
If you believe there to be an error or you need to clarify the results of your search (such as if the road is shown as part publicly maintained), please contact us on the details in the bottom left corner of this page.
Map of Public Rights of WayA Public Rights of Way map is available to view online. This is NOT the Definitive Map of Public Rights of Way which can only be viewed by booking an appointment.
Please see below for a summary of our fees depending on your type of enquiry. If you are unsure which category your enquiry fits in to, please view the Enquiry Types web page where can find more details on each enquiry type and its cost. If you are still unsure as to the charge required, please contact us on the details in the bottom left corner of this page.
Note: ALL enquiries should be accompanied with a clear plan showing an accurate boundary of the property, land registry title plans are preferred.
* VAT is not applicable for these enquiries.
Prices will only exceed those shown above if the area required on a plan will not fit on A3@1:2500 or more than the maximum of seven questions have been asked within your enquiry. The extra fee for a larger plan size is to cover the additional research involved to maintain our high standards of accuracy within a larger sized area.
If you believe your enquiry will exceed these amounts, please contact us before submitting your enquiry so that we can provide you with a quote.
These charges are valid 1st April 2009 - 31st March 2011.
