Proposed Relocation of Sileby RHWS
|
Proposed relocation of Sileby Recycling & Household Waste SiteReducing the amount of rubbish we send to landfill is one of our top priorities in Leicestershire.
We aim to recycle and compost as much waste as possible - providing high quality, accessible local facilities is a vital part of achieving this.
Our proposed new RHWS will be located at Granite Way in Mountsorrel, replacing the current outdated site at Sileby.
The Waste Management Strategy focuses on how we can increase our recycling performance, and part of this strategy includes finding alternative sites for RHWS that need to be improved.
The current site has been in operation for many years and was originally intended to be a temporary arrangement when the old incinerator closed. It is outdated and limits the number of users of the site, as well as the range of materials that can be recycled there. As it is situated at the end of a narrow, residential cul-de-sac, it can make it difficult for people to access the site.
The new location
Several sites have been considered in the search for a replacement RHWS for Sileby. Land at Granite Way, Mountsorrel was identified as the most suitable site - it is close to major roads, and will be accessible to residents in Charnwood who already use the site at Sileby.
Update
The planning application for the new site went to the Development Control and Regulatory Board on 17th December 2009 (Minutes from the meeting can be found within Planning pages as outlined below). The Board decided to recommend the application for approval and it was passed to the Secretary of State. The Secretary of State decided not to intervene in the application, and planning permission was granted on 1st February 2010.
