What can go in?

What can go in? The Komp 250 compost bin is a standard compost bin and can break down garden waste such as grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, twigs, paper, cardboard, fruit and vegetable peelings, tea bags etc. You cannot add the following to your compost bin: cooked vegetables, meat, dairy products, diseased plants, and definitely no dog faeces, cat litter, or babies nappies. If you add these to your compost bin you could encourage unwanted pests and also create odour.

How does it work?

The Komp 250 is a standard compost bin and works using the process of aerobic digestion. To help ensure you get the best from your bin you need to add the right ingredients!
“Greens” such as vegetable peelings, grass cuttings and tea bags which will rot quickly and provide important nitrogen and moisture.
“Browns” such as cardboard, paper and fallen leaves which will rot more slowly and provide fibre, carbon and important air pockets.
These “Green” and “Brown” ingredients should be added in equal portions and mixed together. If your compost is too wet, try adding more Browns, and if too dry, add some Greens. To help provide air pockets try adding some shredded paper or scrunched up card or aerate your compost by using a fork or other tools to create holes through the compost layers. This will facilitate the movement of air and helpful creatures such as worms.

Installation?

Your Komp 250 needs to be located in a sunny/partly shaded part of your garden and if possible on a flat area of grass or soil, this will help creatures such as worms to gain access quicker and begin the composting process. The size is Width 54cm x Depth 54cm x Height 105cm
