Bring on the New Year….
This New Year why not think about making some resolutions that will help you to save money, as well as saving the planet?
Have a look at our top ten New Years Resolutions.
1. Recycle
Don’t forget to start the New Year on the right foot….. At Christmas we often receive gifts that replace older items, i.e. clothes, hairdryers & mobile phones. Don’t just throw away the old ones, most can be recycled or donated to charity.
Also remember to recycle your Christmas trees and Christmas cards at your local Recycling and Household Waste Site.
2. Start home composting.
Reduce the amount of waste that you send to landfill this year by composting at home or how about a food waste digester? These are both great ways to get rid of your organic garden and kitchen waste, and can even make your garden more beautiful!
3. Use reusable shopping bags.
This new year choose to reuse! Next time you go shopping don’t forget to take your reusable shopping bags and just ask yourself do you need that plastic bag?
4. Make a shopping list
Make shopping lists part of your shopping routine this year!
In the UK we throw away a third of all the food we buy and most of it could have been eaten!
By making a shopping list you will only buy what you need, saving waste and money!
5. Make a RE-al difference!
By reusing, repairing, recharging, reinventing and rejuvenating items we can re-ally make a difference!
6. Shop smart, Shop local
By shopping locally, not only will you be supporting local businesses, but locally produced or grown products!
These products will often have been transported less miles as well as being less packaged, seasonal, healthier and tastier!
7. Try Real Nappies
Each year in the UK 3 billion disposable nappies are sent to landfill, so this year why not make the change to reusable nappies it could save you up to £700!

8. Clear the clutter!

9. Visit your local library
This is year why not support your local library and save yourself money by borrowing a book or even a CD or DVD instead of buying them? Some even hire out toys!
10. Stop Junk Mail
Did you know that Leicestershire, residents receive over 1,700 tonnes of junk mail a year which uses; 28,900 trees; 11,900,000 gallons of water and 663,000 gallons oil!
