![]() Leicestershire County Council has
a strong stewardship role in protecting and enhancing the natural environment in Leicestershire. Leicestershire
has a range of species and habitats in the County with some important and rare wildlife sites. There
is poor diversity of plant and animal life due to the loss of natural and semi natural habitats in the
past. However, there is a Biodiversity Action Plan in place to conserve and increase the amount locally
and nationally rare and important wildlife species and habitats in the County. Leicestershire
County Council has a huge role to play through initiatives which help to protect, conserve, enhance
and manage sites of ecological importance and identifying sites for habitat restoration. The Council
also has a strong role in recording wildlife sites and species and identifying those requiring protection
and enhancement in the future. See the Natural Environment
pages of this site for more information about the Natural Environment.
