Energy Saving
Energy is required for heating our homes, cooking and providing electricity. The main energy sources used to fuel our homes are:- gas, electricity, coal, oil and liquid petroleum gas (lpg). These are all fossil fuels which release carbon dioxide when burnt, contributing to climate change.
With energy costs rising and more energy hungry electrical appliances in our homes, such as computers and plasma tv’s, now is a good time to start thinking about saving energy. Saving energy helps to cut energy bills, reduces the amount of fossil fuels used and carbon dioxide emissions released so helping to tackle climate change.
Energy saving or energy efficiency includes actions such as switching appliances off standby, switching lights off when not being used and installing loft or cavity wall insulation in our homes. See Energy Saving Tips for householders for more information.
Renewable energy technologies such as wind turbines, solar photovoltaic panels, solar thermal hot water heating and biomass are clean sources of energy production, and therefore help to reduce our impact on climate change.
