Ibstock Does Climate Change started out in mid 2007 by a resident concerned about climate change who wanted to help individuals, families and Ibstock Parish rise to the challenge of tackling climate change and energy choices. Initially the group was web based, giving people a forum to discuss climate change issues and expanded when it became a climate friendly community. The groups inaugural meeting was held in September 2008, formed a committee and adopted a constitution and bank account. The group has made a number of achievements over the past year and made strong links with the local community college. Activities have included:-
  • Logo design competition with ICT students from Ibstock Community College now featured on the website and publicity materials
  • Promotional banners and cloth bags for local shops to give out instead of plastic bags
  • Involved with North West Leicestershire District Council’s Footprints Challenge
  • Lent Owl Energy Monitors to local residents
  • (B)eat your Bills event at The Palace for local residents with stallholders giving advice on energy efficiency, the footprints challenge, composting, recycling, ENABLE, film showing – An Inconvenient Truth and visits from Miss Earth UK and Penny Pozyer, local environmental expert and matron of Women’s Environmental Network
  • Signed the Leicestershire Together Declaration on Climate Change
  • £1000 grant from ENABLE for printing banners, cloth bags and other promotional material
