Sustainable Billesdon
Sustainable Billesdon have been working alongside Tilton Green as the villages are near to each other and share the catchment area for schools and other local services. Sustainable Billesdon is a more established group, which grew out of Heritage Group. Their past activities have been a successful car free day and plastic bag free campaign. Since becoming a climate friendly community activities have included:-
- Slow Food Day in September attended by over 200 people with a farmers market supplying local produce and a locally sourced meal cooked by the Women’s Institute.
- Energy efficiency survey and thermal imaging survey on the Coplow Centre helped the community centre to identify future energy efficiency measures
- Applied for a grant from the Community Sustainable Energy Programme for an indepth feasibility study for energy efficiency measures and renewable energy technologies in the Coplow Centre
- £1000 grant from ENABLE towards cost of insulating the roof of a local community building
- Helping the local school, Billesdon Primary become an Eco School
- Installed Eco flow device at Coplow Community Centre to save on gas consumption (awaiting results)
- Signed the Leicestershire Together Declaration on Climate Change
