Climate Friendly Communities
ENABLE ran a pilot Climate Friendly Communities programme with three communities
in Leicestershire in 2008/09 in Billesdon, Tilton on the Hill and Ibstock in partnership with Rural
Community Council (Leicestershire & Rutland). The project was part funded by East Midlands Regional
Assembly (EMRA) and Leicestershire Rural Partnership.
All three communities received support from ENABLE to help raise awareness of climate
change in their communities and carry out local projects to help reduce carbon dioxide emissions from
residents and other organisations.
The Chair of Tilton Green explains how the community has benefitted...
"Journeying towards becoming a Climate Friendly Community has involved lots
of people getting to know one another and supporting each other. It has been rewarding and successful
as well as very time-consuming! ENABLE has provided invaluable support to TILTON GREEN in terms of funding,
training, contacts, resources and advice. It has been a learning process for both ENABLE and TILTON
GREEN in terms of how we work together and we wish other communities success and fun on their journeys!"
