East Midlands Airport
What can the County Council do?
The County Council has a general governance responsibility for ensuring that the interests of Leicestershire residents are properly represented and we have taken on board the concerns of local residents about the effect of airport activities on them. We have set up a Joint Working Group made up of local councils in Leicestershire and beyond. Lean more about the joint working group.
We were consulted on the airport’s plans to increase the controlled airspace in Leicestershire. The consultation documents were considered at the Cabinet meeting on 14th December 2004 and concerns were raised about the proposal. You can see a copy of the County Council report and decision. Learn more about the changes to flight paths.
In order to make sense of the effects of changes to the flight paths, we and our partners, with the help of the airport, have conducted a background noise survey on existing and former flight paths. Click on 'Noise Controls' on the left to view the noise survey.
The Joint Member Working Group was set up to liaise with the airport management about environmental and other related issues of concern to local residents. Work on noise measurements was completed and it has been left to the airport to monitor the environmental impacts. The Joint Member Working Group will only meet if there is relevant new business to discuss. The Group's continued operation is under review. In the meantime, the County Council, and other community representations, are part of the EMA Independent Consultation Committee.
