Remembrance Day 2011 - Photo Gallery

Rothley

Rothley Battle of Britain Day Parade and Service and Remembrance Day Service
In accordance with tradition the Rothley & District Royal British Legion were on parade once more on Remembrance Day to honour the fallen of all conflicts in the past century. This year was particularly poignant as it was the 90th year since the formation of the RBL. The Rothley RBL Standard Bearer proudly stood throughout the ceremony which was attended this year by an even greater crowd that usual. In addition to some 120 Rothley Primary School children there were a further 150 plus crowd of onlookers.
The service was conducted by the Reverend Rob Gladstone of the Rothley Church of England with other clergy in support. Meg Hendry, the Rothley RBL Chairman spoke the Homage and Cohima and the standards were dipped during the 2 minutes silence. The names of all the Rothley fallen in conflicts during and since the Great War were read out and wreathes were laid. Prayers were then said.
The Rothley Primary School children sang their Song or Remembrance followed by a hymn and then, to conclude, the National Anthem. It was a very poignant occasion.
