Quarrying – using local stone has a long history

Stone has been used in Leicestershire and Rutland for thousands of years.  The oldest Stone Age implements are 700,000 years old.  From the making of our Roman Roads which cross the counties to the many historic stone buildings in our towns and villages stone has been quarried to serve the local cmmunities.  The modern large aggregate quarries will no doubt be part of the working future of the county.
