Pike (Esox lucius)

Pike
Pike have a flat, broad head and an elongated, streamlined body. Their dorsal and anal fins are positioned well back on their body. The colour depends on where they are living. Pike amongst lots of vegetation are more mottled that other pike. As they age, pike become darker.
Pike are found occur in lakes with plenty of vegetation, rivers and creeks where there is plenty of oxygen and a neutral or alkaline pH. There are no known threats to the pike population in the UK.
More information and images of pike are available on the Arkive website.
