Field ponds are identified as a priority habitat for conservation within the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Biodiversity Action Plan. ‘Pondamonium’ is an introductory booklet covering the natural heritage of field ponds in Leicestershire and Rutland. The booklet covers a wide range of information relating to field ponds. As well as covering the wildlife and plant life found in and around ponds, it also has sections on the folklore and history of ponds. The booklet provides ideas about projects and activities that can be undertaken by local people and how they can get involved with the Pondamonium Survey. You can download a Pondamonium survey form (pdf document, 192kb). The records produced from projects such as this will provide invaluable information, helping conservationists safeguard field ponds in the future.
