Skeffington, Rolleston & Tugby Parish Walks

There are two walks in the Skeffington area: 2.25 and 5.25miles, both start from the Main Street, Skeffington

From the grass triangle in Skeffington, walk up the lane back towards the A47 and cross with care to the track (Skeffington Wood Road), opposite.
A. When the bridleway crosses, turn right and follow it across the fields to reach a brook. Cross the bridge and head up hill passing to the left of Welsh Myers Farm.
B. On reaching the track leading to Skeffington Lodge Farm, turn right.
C. l As the track bends to the left, go straight onto the footpath through the fields to meet with the A47 again. Cross with care to continue on the footpath opposite. This eventually meets up with the cul-de-sac where the walk started.

Walk 2: 8.5km (5.25miles), allow 3 hours, a mixture of arable and pasture, muddy in places
From the grass triangle on Main Street, walk down into the cul-de-sac. Ignoring the footpath sign on the left, continue to the end of the road and follow the footpath on the right between Homestead Cottage and Overdale, leading to Rolleston.
1. Walk along the track as far as a gate and enter the field passing a barn on the right. Keep the hedge on the right through this and the next field, then cross an open field to reach a gap in the hedge by a waymark post. With the hedge now on your left, bear slightly right across this field to cross a footbridge and stile. Head slightly to the right of a large house ahead (Skeffington Vale) and cross its drive.
2. Continue in the same direction to cross a second drive, with a thatched house off to the left. Go over a footbridge and stile before ascending through the middle of a very large field. Aim slightly left of the houses ahead, cross a stile and rough ground to reach the road at Rolleston. Rolleston Hall, built 1955-1958 incorporates part of the original house dating back to 16th/17th Century. The west tower of St. John Baptist Church, in the grounds of the Hall, probably dates from the 13th century. This section of roadway is designated as a bridleway.
3. Turn left and walk away from the village to a wellsigned junction where you can see the lake of Rolleston Hall ahead. Now turn left and head east on the bridleway towards Tugby, with Crow Wood on the right.
4. The path is well marked and soon bears right through two gates about 100m apart. Cross the fields, to a narrow bridge on the left. Then follow the waymarkers uphill to eventually reach Tugby along a surfaced path passing to the right of the three houses ahead.
5. Walk up Main Street into the village, then turn left into Chapel Lane. Note the Fox and Hounds public house is just up on the right. Continue up the path to the right, passing “Meadowcroft” on the right, then through a small metal gate and onto a narrow path.
6. After crossing a stile in the hedge on the right, follow the path across several fields and stiles to reach the A47 road. Cross this very busy road with great care, turn left and walk along the grass verge towards Skeffington.
7. Just before reaching industrial buildings and a tall aerial on the left of the road, enter the fields on the right, taking the bridle path towards Skeffington Wood Road. On reaching the track leading to Skeffington Lodge Farm, turn left and follow direction of Walk 1 from point C to return to the start.
