Rearsby Parish Walks

There are 3 different walks in the Asfordby area: 1 1/2miles, 4 1/4miles, and 5 1/4miles. All walks start from the Packhorse bridge and are relatively flat with some gentle inclines on mixed surfaces
Where is Rearsby? Rearsby is a village north of Leicester situated mid-way between the City and Melton Mowbray.

The Route

Rearsby can be reached from either the A607 or from the A46 via Thrussington
FREE car park on Mill Road near the Packhorse bridge
Walk 1: 7km (4.25miles), allow 1 hour
From the pack horse bridge walk along Brookside keeping the brook on your left and past the village school on your right. Turn left into Station Road towards Thrussington. At the bridge with metal balustrades cross over the road and follow the footway up the hill.
A. Opposite Church Leys Avenue turn right onto the footpath towards Brooksby. At the head of a surfaced lane keep to the right of the house (No24) and continue straight ahead with a hedge on your right. This footpath takes you across three fields and joins a track beneath power lines and with stable buildings on your right. Follow the track passing fishing lakes on the left then through a farm yard.
B. At a bend in the road and with the church spire ahead of you cross a stile and over fields following waymarkers and into Brooksby college grounds.
C. Keeping the church and the main buildings on your left, follow the left hand drive until reaching the road.
D. Turn left and follow the road downhill and immediately before the level crossing turn left through a gateway. Walk for about 100 metres with railway on your right and then turn right to cross the railway. After crossing, bear left and walk diagonally across field towards the trees, keeping the river on your right until you reach the waymarker at the kissing gate. Take the bridge over River Wreake and after crossing a ditch turn left.
E. Keeping the hedge on your right follow the footpath over fields. After passing beneath power lines you reach a lane and turn left. Follow the lane until you reach Thrussington Mill.
F. With buildings on your right, pass through a yard and take the bridge over mill race. Follow the footpath to a brick built arched bridge to cross the river once again. Continue over a stile and then straight ahead over three fields.
G.Rearsby village is now in view and after crossing the railway turn slightly right and walk diagonally across a paddock to a stile at edge of houses. After passing between houses reach Wreake Drive, turn right and continue until reaching its junction with Station Road. Cross the road and turn left onto a footpath with railings. Go through the kissing gate into the paddock and walk past the Convent buildings on your right. At second kissing gate walk between houses, and on reaching Church Leys Avenue turn right and follow footpath with church on your right. At church gates turn left into Church Lane and this brings you back to the start at the seven arch bridge.
Walk 2: 9km (5.25miles), allow 2 hours
Follow the directions for Walk 1 to Point D. Turn right and almost immediately left over a cattle grid to take the field road to Rotherby. On reaching the village continue along Main Street towards the church.
1. At the corner of the churchyard turn left through the gate onto the footpath. Follow this through the meadow, then cross the raised wooden section to the stile into the next field. This leads to the railway. Cross the railway and continue with the river on your lef
2. After 300 metres, cross the brick bridge over the river and turn immediately right. Follow the path beside the river and to the right of the house. Continue straight ahead up hill towards Hoby village to reach the road. For an optional diversion to the pub – turn right. Otherwise, turn left and follow the pavement to the children’s play area. Cross the play area and stile into the small paddock. After 100 metres cross a stile and low bridge
3. Follow the line of trees straight ahead for about 100 metres and then head half left past a waymark in the middle of the field towards a group of trees in the left hand hedge. Cross a triple stile in the hedge and the corner of the next field to the next stile. The next field takes you to a road. Cross the road and take the drive opposite to Lodge Farm. Keep along the right hand boundary of the farm garden and then continue straight on across the field. Cross the stile into the next field and look out for the brick arched bridge on your left. When you are level with the bridge you meet the path coming from Brooksby. (Point E). Continue on Walk 1 back to Rearsby.

Walk 3: 2.5km (1.5mile) allow 1 hour to Rearsby Mill & back
From the packhorse bridge walk along Mill Road with the brook on your right, at the preachers stone turn right down the farm track. Still with the brook on your right walk to the railway line and cross using the marked crossing. Continue down the footpath until you reach the stile at the end. Walk across the paddock over the next style to reach Rearsby mill. Return by the same route.
