Snibston Country Parkand theGrange Nature ReserveSite DescriptionSnibston Country Park is located in the heart of the National Forest and comprises of 100 acres (40.46 hectares) of mixed habitats, including mature woodland, developing plantation woodland, wildflower meadows, rough grassland, wildlife ponds and marshland. It is also home to “the Grange” which was declared Leicestershire County Council’s first Local Nature Reserve in May 1993.
The grounds, previously the site of the former colliery heapstead, have changed dramatically over the past 100 years. After Snibston Colliery closed in 1983 the site was purchased by Leicestershire County Council and extensive conservation work over the last 15 years has resulted in its miraculous transformation both into a popular recreational space whilst also improving the wildlife value across a diverse range of habitats including various different age tree plots; wild flower meadows; marshland areas; open water and nature ponds; mature woodlands and amenity grassland areas.
