LocationAshby Road, Donisthorpe, DE12 7QG in North West Leicestershire.
The Oakthorpe Colliery is not near Oakthorpe village but off the road from Donisthorpe to Ashby de la Zouch. The picnic site provides parking for the adjacent 40-hectare Willesley Wood managed by the Woodland Trust.
DescriptionA six-hectare former colliery site in The National Forest which has areas of naturally-regenerated woodland, as well as planting with new native woodland. There are open grass areas, managed for wild flowers, and surfaced paths, which are suitable for all users.
