Foxton Locks

Location

On Foxton to Gumley Road, 3 miles north-west of Market Harborough, South East Leicestershire

Description

A car park and picnic area giving access to the Grand Union Canal where there is a spectacular staircase of ten locks. It is also the former site of an inclined plane whereby two moveable water tanks on tracks lifted barges up the 23m (75 feet) slope, which was considerably quicker than the lock system. Access

The towpath is accessible over the footbridge.
There are no steps but there are steep slopes.
