Country Rangers

A country ranger fills a feeding point for birds

Leicestershire’s Country Parks are looked after by four small teams of Rangers, one each based at Watermead, Beacon Hill, Bosworth and Snibston Country Parks

Sign maintenance is part of a Ranger's dutiesThe upkeep of parks is the Ranger's main task

The Rangers carry out the day-to-day management of the parks to ensure the maintenance of high standards

They provide sevices to visitors such as:
  • A programme of Guided Walks, for details see What’s On.
  • The leading of Volunteer Days when visitors can have a go at practical conservation work.
  • The giving of general information about the parks.

Activities for Children

  • At Beacon Hill and Market Bosworth country parks the Rangers organise group meetings for WATCH (junior branch of The Wildlife Trust) where children can find out more about wildlife.
  • The Country Parks are also popular for school visits and the Rangers are available to take groups or such adventures as pond dipping or a mini beast hunt. For details contact countryparks@leics.gov.uk or call 0116 305 6918.
