Charnwood Forest

The Draft East Midlands Regional Plan recognises the need for measures to protect and enhance the particular character of Charnwood Forest, potentially through a ‘Regional Park’ initiative.
The County Council is leading the development of options for the future of the area in partnership with Charnwood Borough Council, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, North West Leicestershire District Council, Natural England, GOEM and the National Forest.
A conference on The Future of Charnwood Forest was held on 25 June 2007. The proceedings of the conference have been circulated to all conference delegates. An update to the conference was held on 11 December 2007. The proceedings of this have been circulated to all attendees.
The County Council and its partners are liaising on the development of planning policies for the Charnwood Forest area and project funding opportunities. Further consultations on options for the area’s future will follow.
