On 16 July 2009 Housing Minister, John Healey announced that the Pennbury eco-town had not been shortlisted. The Government's decision was welcomed by the County Council who had carried out extensive investigations and concluded that Pennbury was an unsuitable location for an eco-town.
The Planning Policy Statement:eco-towns includes the locations which have been assessed as having thepotential for an eco-town. These locations are: Whitehill-Bordon in Hampshire, St Austell (China Clay Community) in Cornwall, Rackheath (Norwich) in Norfolk and North West Bicester in Oxfordshire.
