Severe Weather

Please click on the appropriate link at the side for the specific weather advice you require, either for Flooding/Heatwave/Drought.

When Severe Weather Strikes

Severe weather (e.g. heavy snow, blizzards, dense fog, gales, heat, flooding and widespread ice) can cause great disruption to daily routines.
Although certain sections of the community are particularly vulnerable, including older people and those who are infirm or who have disabilities, severe weather does not discriminate.
Leicestershire County Council and the District Councils of Blaby, Charnwood, Harborough, Hinckley & Bosworth, Melton, North West Leicestershire and Oadby & Wigston all have major roles to play. On a County-wide basis, the County Council and the District Councils plan for severe weather conditions and, when these occur, co-ordinate the delivery of essential public services.
The local authorities will make available their vehicles, buildings and other resources in order to respond to communities in need across Leicestershire.
Together with the emergency services and other agencies, the Councils will help to return the situation to normal as quickly as possible.
Everyone may also have a vital part to play during these difficult times. Being a good neighbour by being aware of those who may be particularly vulnerable is very important.

Severe Weather Leaflet

The front cover of 'When Severe Weather Strikes' leaflet
Our Severe Weather Leaflet provides further information on the coordination throughout severe weather, and issues such as roads and accessibility, school closures, and issues related to social services. It also explains the set up and running of emergency centres.
For more up-to-date information during severe weather, the leaflet provides some useful contact numbers and radio stations to ensure that you are kept informed of any ongoing activities. There are also some handy hints and actions that can be taken during severe cold weather or a heatwave.
