The General Teaching Council (GTC) can confirm Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) on 0870 001 0308. Leicester College are currently involved in developing a training programme to assist people with degrees and Higher Education qualifications from overseas to achieve recognition in this country. Work PermitsWith effect from 1 April 2003, the Home Office has introduced charging for work permit applications. However, applications for teachers for State maintained schools in England will be charged directly to the Department for Education and Skills (DfES). Further information can be obtained by telephoning 0114 2594074 or emailing customrel.workpermits@wpuk.gov.uk.
Overseas Trained Teachers - Support AvailableThe DfES have launched a new website www.teachernet.gov.uk/teachinginengland. The website is aimed at supporting Overseas Trained Teachers who are embarking on a career in the UK. The site has a range of useful curriculum resources as well as providing the essential information on work permits and obtaining qualified teacher status.
