Services for Schools
The Local Authority maintains a comprehensive range of support services for schools. Some of these are centrally funded while others provide a mix of centrally funded and traded services. Examples of the support services include:
- Access and Welfare
- Statistics and Information
- Finance
- Educational Psychology
- Special Needs Teaching
- Human Resources
- School Improvement and Performance
- Ethnic Minority Achievement Support
- Traveller Education
A number of the services providing support for students are deployed on the basis of need.
The School Improvement and Performance Service employs a range of School Improvement Partners (SIPs) and consultants. The emphasis of the work of the service is on supporting school self-evaluation and raising student achievement. The LA supports the induction and further training of headteachers and works closely with regional and national organisations, including the National College for School Leadership through the East Midlands Leadership Centre.
Leicestershire possesses unrivalled opportunities for outdoor, adventurous and in-service training activities through its Residential and Conference Service. The service is based at Beaumanor Hall, a Victorian mansion set in beautiful grounds south of Loughborough. The Hall itself provides conference and training facilities whilst in the grounds are a number of residential cabins which can accommodate school groups of up to 106 people. Nearby Quorn Hall is used as an international residential centre and houses also the County’s Outdoor Education Centre and multi-cultural resource base. Field Study centres are located at Foxton and Congerstone. Aberglaslyn Hall in the Snowdonia National Park is available for groups of up to 36 people to enjoy a range of mountain, river and coastal activities.
