Worried, the girl switched on the lights.
Start with the present participle (ing)
Hurrying, she made her way out of the room.
Start with a connective
Although she was nervous, she headed upstairs.
Put the subject half way through a sentence instead of at the start:
At the top of the stairs the creature waited.
