Clarify the task

Identify the key text features
- Do I know the main language features of this text type?
- How does this type of writing start/continue/end?
Identify the purpose
- What is the purpose of this type of writing?
Identify the audience
- Who is the intended reader for this text?
Plan
- Have I planned what to write?
- Which planning format will suit this task? (e.g. explosion chart/tree diagram/flow diagram/timeline/structure map)
- Have I selected what to write?
- Have I decided on the order?
- Do I know how I will start and end?
Rehearse
- Visualise the structure or shape of the piece before writing
- Rehearse the next sentence to see if it makes sense before writing
Review
- Have I re-read what I’ve written to check that it makes sense and conforms to objective, purpose, my plan and the text features?
- Can I identify what needs improving, modifying or changing at text, sentence and word level?
- Do I need more information?
- Are the links between the different parts clear? (e.g. between sentences or paragraphs?)
- Share Writing with a partner
Concentrate
- Focus on writing without being distracted

- How do I improve my writing and make changes?
