Key features of Guided Reading
- Pupils grouped by ability, need or focus
- Teacher plans the session, following an instructional sequence
- Teacher works with the group for a short focused session (e.g. 20 minutes)
- Pupils spend some time reading independently
- Follow-up tasks and targets are set, to ensure continuity and progression
