About the team and its services

The team provides curriculum support in English for schools through:
  • implementation of the National Strategies for KS3/4;
  • programme of development for Leicestershire identified priorities for all secondary phases.
Specific services provided by the team are:
School curriculum support programmes for English and literacy across the curriculum.
  • Centrally organised in-service training for teachers, classroom assistants, subject leaders.
  • Regular network meetings for Literacy Co-ordinators, for Heads of Departments, for nominated teachers from each year group and for the 14-19 support network.
  • Briefings for headteachers and senior managers.
  • Dissemination of good practice through: the literacy website; Leicestershire guidance; demonstration lessons, case studies and workshops by practising teachers and curriculum leaders.
  • Links to other services supporting literacy improvement.
Other information
The Leicestershire Secondary English Team works closely with the following services in the LA to promote literacy improvement in the teaching of English and of Literacy Across the Curriculum:
Arts in Education, Ethnic Minorities Achievement Support Service, ICT, Library Services for Education, Special Educational Needs Team, Specialist Teaching Service, Traveller Education Service.
Help for teachers of English, including practical ideas and resources.
