Schools Forum
Schools Forums were established under the Education Act 2002 to formally give schools a voice in the disbursement of funding for schools.
The Members of the Forum represent the views of Headteachers and Governors across all school phases, other members include diocesan representatives, elected members of the County Council, providers of early years education and the 13 – 19 Partnership. In addition the LSC, the CYPS Lead Member and the Joint consultative Committee have an observer role whereby they can participate in discussions but are unable to vote.
The Forum has some decision making powers but also a significant consultative role in all aspects of the Schools Budget, this includes the budgets distributed to Schools but also the centrally retained schools budget which funds services such as student support, special educational needs and early learning and childcare.
All members of the Forum serve to represent the groups that either elect or nominate them, they are a strategic group and can commission work or establish working groups to consider issues in more detail.
Members receive training are expected to set sufficient time aside to undertake the role, this includes 3 - 4 meetings per year, attendance at training events and time to gain the views of those they represent to inform debate at meetings. Members are also expected to feed back issues discussed at Forum to their representatives.
