Special Educational Needs Assessment Service
SENA SERVICE
The Special Educational Needs Assessment Service provides the following services for parents and children in Leicestershire in partnership with other services within the Children and Young People's Service:
- The identification and statutory assessment of those children with special educational needs of a kind and degree which require the LA to determine the educational provision to be made for them.
- Review and amendment of Statements of Special Educational Needs.
- The admission of students with Statements of Special Education Needs to special schools, units and nurseries.
- The provision of advice and information to parents, schools and other agencies in relation to the statutory requirements and LA procedures relating to the SEN & Disability Act 2001 and Education Act 1996.
- Representing the LA in statutory appeal procedures state SEN & Disability tribunal and mediation.
- The allocation of resources for children with Statements of Special Educational Needs in mainstream schools.
- The allocation of individual equipment and aids for pupils with Statements of special educational needs.
STATUTORY ASSESSMENT PROCESS
The Special Educational Needs Assessment Service is responsible to the LA for the management of the statutory assessment process.
