Do you need further information or support?
Contact the Parent Partnership Officer if you would like further information about the Leicestershire Special Educational Needs Parent Partnership Service. This Service encourages equal partnership between parents or carers and the people who are involved with children's special educational needs.
One of the ways the Parent Partnership Service helps parents is by training Independent Parental Supporters. The Parent Partnership Officer can put you in touch with an Independent Parental Supporter who will be a volunteer who can help you to express your views and offer you support whenever you need it. Independent Parental Supporters are often parents who have a child with special educational needs. They are people with time to listen to you. An Independent Parental Supporter can help you to understand the special needs process.
An Independent Parental Supporter can.......
- Listen to your concerns about your child's education
- Support you at meetings concerning your child's special educational needs.
- Provide information and guidance on where to get further information about special educational needs.
- Explain the assessment process to you.
- Talk through the options available for your child.
- Help you to ensure that your child's views are heard.
- Sort out the paperwork with you.
- Help you to write your views.
